Malaysia and Indonesia: bound by proximity and megadiversity
Did you know that both Malaysia and Indonesia are megadiverse countries?
The term megadiversity is related to biodiversity. Essentialy, it means a very high level of plant and animal species, including many native species. In fact, there are only 17 countries in the world that are regarded as having such an abundance of nature. Both Malaysia and Indonesia are part of this elite group.
Apart from this natural connection, Malaysia and Indonesia have many other common traits. They share their national language, Bahasa, which is understood by both populations. Also, their history and culture are very inter-connected. For example, many inhabitants of Malaysia can trace ancestors from Indonesia, and vice versa. This is due to the long-standing relationships and migration between the two nations.
