OUR MISSION
At our core, we are driven by a deep commitment to ensure the well-being and flourishing of turtles. We aspire to create the perfect environment where these magnificent creatures can thrive, and we recognize that achieving this goal requires the active involvement of informed local communities, a passionate and educated public, dedicated non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and a government that shares our concern.
Dr. Chen Pelf Nyok, one of the founders of TCS Turtle Conservation Society, was recently honored with the Commonwealth Point of Light recognition by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. This prestigious award acknowledges Dr. Chen’s remarkable contributions to the community-based terrapin conservation project in Kemaman, Terengganu. Her tireless efforts have served as an inspiration to many and have played a crucial role in the success of our mission.
Over the years, our collective endeavors have yielded impressive results:
We have microchipped a total of 132 adult female terrapins between 2012 and 2023. This vital step allows us to track their movements, gather valuable data, and ensure their ongoing protection.
We have saved an astounding 8,220 terrapin eggs from being consumed by humans between 2011 and 2023. By safeguarding these precious eggs, we are preserving future generations and contributing to the conservation of these magnificent creatures.
Finally, our commitment to the welfare of turtles is evident in the fact that we have released 4,638 terrapins into the Kemaman River between 2011 and 2023. By reintroducing these individuals into their natural environment, we are giving them a chance to thrive and contribute to the ecosystem.
These achievements would not have been possible without the unwavering support and collaboration of our dedicated team, partners, and stakeholders. Together, we are making a difference and creating a future where turtles can flourish under the watchful care and protection of a united community. Join us on this remarkable journey as we continue to make a positive impact, educate others, and foster a deep sense of responsibility for the natural world.
