A Sanctuary for Second Chances
Are you ready for a life-changing adventure? Join us in the heart of Lao PDR as a volunteer at the foremost center for Laos wildlife conservation. Since our founding, we have acted as a critical sanctuary for animals rescued from the illegal wildlife trade, habitat destruction, and the exotic pet industry. We provide these “forgotten jewels of the Mekong” a second chance at life through world-class rehabilitation and care.
Our core mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and—whenever possible—release animals back into their natural habitats, directly strengthening Laos wildlife conservation and protecting the country’s unique ecosystems. Located conveniently near the stunning Nam Ngum Reservoir, our center is easily accessible from Vientiane, offering a peaceful jungle setting where your work makes a global difference.
Care for native Primates and other threatened animals
As a leader in ethical Laos wildlife conservation, our centre strictly adheres to a no-touch policy. This ensures that animal welfare remains a top priority and that rehabilitated animals maintain the natural behaviours necessary for a successful return to the wild. We offer a structured and immersive experience with our two volunteer programs, animal husbandry and veterinary volunteering.

ANIMAL HUSBANDRY VOLUNTEERING
Work Schedule & Daily Life
Volunteers work 07:00 to 16:00, six days a week, typically with Sundays off. The schedule is flexible; you are encouraged to take breaks to stay healthy, and animal emergencies always take priority over the planned routine.
A Typical Day:
07:00 Morning Rounds: Feeding, cleaning, and diet preparation for rescued animals.
10:00 Break: A short period to hydrate and relax.
12:00 Lunch: Enjoy a hot meal and rest in your bungalow hammock.
13:00 Enrichment or Construction: Work on creative puzzles for animals or help build new facilities.
15:00 Evening Feed-out: Distribute afternoon diets to the animals.
16:00 Finished: Free time to visit the neighbouring infinity pool, relax, or observe nocturnal species.
Key Projects:
Construction: Build a lasting legacy by constructing enclosures, swimming pools, and climbing towers that reflect modern conservation principles.
Enrichment: Create activities to stimulate animals mentally and physically. This is essential for preventing stress and helping rescued wildlife regain the natural behaviours needed for rehabilitation. If the weather is poor, these projects move indoors to the enrichment workshop.
WILDLIFE VETERINARY VOLUNTEERING
Qualified veterinarians, technicians, and students are invited to join the front lines at the on-site wildlife hospital. This program offers the chance to gain international experience in wildlife medicine and fulfil university placement requirements while working alongside a professional team.
Opened in late 2024, the state-of-the-art hospital is equipped with world-class technology to treat nearly any species native to Laos. The facility even includes viewing windows for guests to witness the life-saving work involving procedures and diagnostics.
Key Responsibilities: Daily duties are diverse and unpredictable, including quarantine care, shadowing the veterinary team, performing health check rounds, managing patient records, and assisting with emergency surgeries.
Schedule & Flexibility: While standard hours are 07:00 to 16:00, there is no fixed schedule. Participants must remain flexible, as the hospital often manages sudden wildlife confiscations or critical emergencies that take immediate priority.
Education & Training: LCTW focuses on empowering the local community. The team is led by a western-trained DVM who mentors a local Lao veterinarian. Volunteers will work under both, contributing to a sustainable model where local professionals are trained to care for their own country’s wildlife. Expect a fast-paced environment where no two days are ever the same.

Project Information
What is the mission of the project?
The Laos center combats illegal wildlife trade via 24/7 rescues and government partnerships. As a non-profit, the project monitors zoonotic diseases and empowers communities through education, school outreach, and a world-class interpretive center to ensure the long-term protection of Laos’s biodiversity.
