3. Kudat Turtle Conservation Society

The Juara Turtle Project has been operating since 2001 on Tioman Island which is part of the state of Pahang. Apart from its main mission as a turtle hatchery, the project also focuses on coral restoration and waste management. Over the years, it has changed ownership several times. With the help of special benefactors, such as the Pahang Royal family, the project managed to build a new centre and expand activities in 2008. Consequently, the project was able to establish itself independently.

An established and independent NGO

Today, Juara Turtle Project also operates an animal welfare centre and educational programmes. As an established NGO, the centre receives many volunteers and visits from schools and universities. It continues its vital work of releasing turtle hatchlings, restoring coral reefs, collecting and recycling waste and educating the local population.
